Dolphin 460

I truly believe this catamaran represents the perfect compromise between speed, comfort and value so far lacking in the current production catamaran market. Our Dolphin 460 is air-conditioned, has a spacious salon with excellent visibility, a wonderful galley-up with great counter-top space, large aft berths, and dagger boards for excellent upwind performance, good bridge deck clearance, fine interior woodwork and first-rate fittings.

If you find this catamaran as exciting as we do, and wish to purchase your own Dolphin or our demo, we will be happy to explain our Dolphin Ownership Program while we give you a full day demo sail in one of the most beautiful areas of Italy. In addition, your entire demo fee of 500 euro can be applied to your purchase.

We look forward to having you aboard.

Questions Answered

What is the maximum speed under power?

Standard engines are Volvo D2-40 hp and if both are running at top RPM, the Dolphin will do 10 knots. Both engines are used when docking or bucking a strong headwind.

What is the most economical and efficient speed under power?

Typically, running on just one engine at 2,200 RPM at about 7.5 knots, as this will increase the range significantly.

What is the maximum speed under sail beating to weather?

In flat water, with true winds over 14 knots, the Dolphin will do 8.7 knots, while pointing at about 32 to 35 degrees to the apparent wind. For comparison purposes, even on a close reach, the Lagoon has a hard time going over 8 knots Beating to weather she is even slower, and pointing about 8 degrees lower. Recently, in a sea trail with 8 knots of wind the Dolphin was able to maintain 7.5 knots.

What is the maximum speed running with a spinnaker?

Actually, the Dolphin will go fastest on a beam reach with an asymmetrical chute. However, in 28 knots of true wind speed the fastest recorded speed so far has been 23 knots, and this was maintained for about one hour.

What speed should be used for planning a voyage?

Many of our owners have reported averaging 12 knots. However, when planning a voyage it is wise to plan on 8 knots though often 10 knots or more will be common.

Fast and Comfortable

The Dolphin 460 is easily identified by her fine, sharp bows, which reduce bow-wave drag and enhance surfing. The graduated flared hulls handle cruising payloads with no hull protrusions to create drag, slapping, or pounding. The Dolphin 460 uses dagger-boards for pointing, shoal draft sailing, and reduced drag off the wind. With a tall powerful rig, she sails swiftly in light breezes. Aft payloads are no problem because of longer, wider stems and a generous 24-foot 11-inch beam to increase stability.

The spacious salon of Dolphin 460 is notable for her large, u-shaped galley-up design, vertical windows that offer a 360-degree connection to the world outside while reducing interior heat, and a comfortable semi-circular couch that can be converted into a bed.

To give her that elegant, "real yacht" feel, she is appointed with teak laminate flooring, polished Brazilian hardwood trim, and laminated wood-grain finish cabinets. Her galley has Corian-type counter tops, dual stainless sinks, a freezer, refrigerator, oven and stove.

While sitting in the salon the Dolphin 460 can be piloted easily with a remote autopilot or joystick. Visibility in every direction is superb. Docking and sailing is made easy with a bulkhead helm that offers, "four corners visibility". Email Hot Link: Dolphin Info
